Political Correctness

Postby Black Knight » Wed Mar 19, 2008 4:09 pm

First it was the poor Gollyw*g then Snow White and the seven vertically impaired people and now I see that the police are investigating Basil Brush for buying pegs from gypsies !!
That says it all .............

Isn't it about time they started talking about real issues like violence in society amidst the ethnic minorities etc instead of slating off one of our favourite actors.
words are just a collection of letters in a particular sequence and cannot harm anyone. Its the person hearing them that causes the damage by taking offence.
Decades have been spent getting rid of censorship in books films and other media and now the pc are doing he exact opposite by bringing in censorship of the spoken word.
I tried to have swearing taken off the beeb I and thousands of others got nowhere yet if I was of a different culture and someone said something that was offensive against my race then I can have the full support of the pc brigade s well as the law to correct the issue.
This in my eyes is double standards.

I mentioned this to someone yesterday and they said "but its a school yard joke" and it is, its something a child would think really funny, with no thoughts to anything rascist.

What about the jokes about The Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman are these outlawed too ??

I didn`t . That was Wiccan woman`s post. I just move it (and yours) into a topic of the same title so that we didn`t have two the same running at once.

The world is a richer place for our differences. I dont see anything wrong with associating Eskimo`s with igloos , arabs with camels, french with garlic, spanish with paella, japanese with geisha girls, aboriginies with boomerangs , etc.etc. ........... OR gipsies with clothes pegs !

I notice the sun newspaper using the word frog in the headline over the football handling incident not that I mind
as I have not read the story but can guess what it refers to but it does seem like the incident on strictly was blown out of all proportion,in relation.

I see that a recruitment agency has been reprimanded for advertising for someone "reliable & hard-working" in case it offends unreliable people !!
